AWS resource reference
Subnet: public, private and database
All three subnet appearances share one resource type. Classification influences placement, defaults and eligible resource associations.

Use editor controls for selection, inspector drafts and action menus. Creating or editing this design data does not create an AWS resource.
Create resources on a subnet
Subnet actions expose EC2, NAT Gateway, Route Table, Load Balancer and RDS where creation constraints permit. RDS creation requires a Database subnet plus compatible database subnets in another AZ. Internet-facing load balancers require Public subnets; Internal load balancers require Private subnets. See the individual pages before creating them.
Fields and editing
| Field / label | Meaning and behaviour | Defaults and constraints |
|---|---|---|
| VPC Parent | Atlas reference to VPC; canonical resource ID, not an AWS ID. Read-only ownership. | Required; CIDR must fit its VPC. |
| CIDR Block | Editable subnet IPv4 address range. | Required and validated. Interactive creation takes the first unused subdivision, normally /24 and bounded to /28; failure is explicit. |
| Availability Zone | Editable offline AZ selector within the account region. | AZ1 / AZ2 / AZ3 correspond to region a / b / c. An authored custom value is preserved. Not AWS availability discovery. |
| Classification | Editable enum defining the Atlas subnet category. | Public, Private, Database; bare default Public. |
| Map Public IP On Launch | Editable boolean modelling default public IPv4 assignment. | Bare default false; classification alone is not a guarantee of real AWS routing or public exposure. |
AWS reference
Official AWS service guide explains the service. AWS property reference is a comparison reference. Atlas is an offline design model; its fields are not a promise of direct AWS API/CloudFormation equivalence or regional availability.
