AWS resource reference

RDS

A VPC-owned relational database design. Create it on a Database subnet after preparing a valid DB subnet group across at least two AZs.

In Atlas

A VPC-owned relational database design. Create it on a Database subnet after preparing a valid DB subnet group across at least two AZs.

Use editor controls for selection, inspector drafts and action menus. Creating or editing this design data does not create an AWS resource.

Worked example: a private database design

  1. Create two Database subnets in the same VPC with different valid AZs, for example eu-west-2a and eu-west-2b.
  2. From the VPC inspector use Manage DB subnet groups. Create a group, give it a Name and Description and select the two Database subnets. Apply the child change, then Apply the parent inspector to commit the transaction.
  3. Select a Database subnet and execute Add New RDS. It reuses or creates compatible group data when prerequisites permit; invalid or missing prerequisites produce an error.
  4. Inspect RDS. Set Engine postgres, choose an offline Instance Class and Allocated Storage Gi B. Confirm Db Subnet Group refers to your same-VPC two-AZ group.
  5. Review Backup: for example keep Retention Days 7 and set a deliberate backup window if needed. Review Network: leave Publicly Accessible false for a private design. Use exact uppercase IPV4 or DUAL for Network Type.
  6. Choose Apply. Only a successful Apply commits the draft. If validation rejects it, preserve the error and cancel or correct only supported fields; a rejected draft is not saved. Once committed, Save persists the design. No database has been provisioned.

Shared resource fields

Resource identity, naming and tags follow the shared field guide. Parent ownership summaries are read-only; changing visual placement does not rewrite ownership. Apply commits an inspector draft to the design; Save persists the design. Values loaded from a saved design may differ from the bare defaults below.

AWS reference

Official AWS service guide explains the service. AWS property reference is a comparison reference. Atlas is an offline design model; its fields are not a promise of direct AWS API/CloudFormation equivalence or regional availability.
