Editor controls and inspector

Exact keyboard/mouse controls for the WebGL and desktop editor, including draft and delete behaviour.

Camera controls

InputEffect
W / A / S / D or arrow keysPan the camera focus horizontally, relative to the camera. These are not fly/elevation controls.
Hold right mouse button and dragOrbit the camera around its focus. This turns the view; it does not rotate the authored resource structure.
Mouse wheel over the sceneZoom in/out. Default camera distance clamp is 2.5–20. Scrolling over the inspector scrolls its contents instead.
RReset camera to its default focus/orientation/distance. Default yaw 35°, pitch 35°, distance 8; orbit pitch clamp 15–75°.
Global menu → Reset ViewReset camera and clear active root structure rotation. This is broader than the R camera shortcut.
Text input or panel gesture focusedCamera/selection input is suppressed so typing and panel gestures do not move the view.

Hover, select and activate

Hover highlights the resource under the pointer. Load Balancer and RDS projection members share their canonical group highlight. Left-click a resource to select it and open its inspector. Clicks on UI do not select resources behind it.

Clicking empty space or a non-resource closes the inspector and discards its private draft. Selecting a different resource also discards the prior draft. No separate double-click/activate or general desktop structure-drag/rotation binding is exposed by the current desktop input adapter; use a single click to inspect and the labelled action buttons to act.

Edit a resource inspector

  1. Click a resource and scroll its inspector to the relevant fields. Scalar text/numbers, enum dropdowns, toggles and supported reference controls edit a private draft. End editing a text field and read any validation feedback.
  2. Parent fields are ownership summaries and read-only. Reference selectors edit associations, not ownership. Some complex data is summary-only and some lists show existing items without creation controls; consult the resource reference.
  3. For supported child collections use their create/remove controls. A list may show only the first 12 entries plus a More count; this display bound is not a contract maximum.
  4. Choose Apply to flush draft inputs, validate, commit to the scene and close the inspector. If validation fails, the scene has not accepted that draft. Fix the shown problem in supported fields or Cancel.
  5. Choose Cancel to discard. Empty-space clicks, changing selection and global menu actions also dismiss the inspector. In particular, Save first dismisses it: Apply before Save or the private draft is lost.

Context actions and deletion

The inspector’s split action button has an arrow and a labelled main button. Open the arrow to choose an action, then press the main button to execute it. Choosing an entry alone does not execute it. Child creation options depend on the selected resource type and prerequisites.

The red Delete This [type] action is destructive and has no additional confirmation dialog in this inspector. Dependencies or remaining references may block deletion and show an inline error. Do not assume it cascades or can be undone. Save an intentional state before making destructive edits.

Global menu

Use the hamburger icon to open the global menu. An outside click dismisses it; executing a command closes it. To leave the hosted editor use Back to deployments; to leave its expanded presentation use Exit full screen or Escape. See saving/loading and deployment navigation.

Menu labelBehaviour
Create AWS AccountCreates the root design account; hidden after an account exists.
Create Demo TopologyCreates a predefined offline example, disabled once any account exists. Its resources and traffic visualisation are demonstration data, not measured AWS activity.
SavePersists committed design data when product context/readiness and write access permit. Apply inspector drafts first.
LoadRequests the latest saved design. The surrounding product messages may call this Load Latest. Read any unsaved-change prompt before continuing.
Reset ViewResets camera and root rotation.
